About us

A language is more than words. It is history, identity, and belonging. Bhojpuri deserves its rightful place in the world, and we are here to make that happen.

Reviving Bhojpuri, Restoring Dignity, Reclaiming Our Identity

Who We Are.

The International Institute for Bhojpuri Learning and Development (IIBLD) is a pioneering research institution and cultural preservation organization dedicated to the linguistic, historical, and socio-political advancement of the Bhojpuri language. Our primary objective is to revive the Kaithi script, an ancient script historically used for writing Bhojpuri, and work towards its official recognition in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. By achieving this milestone, we aim to institutionalize Bhojpuri as a fully recognized and standardized language, paving the way for its inclusion in formal education and public discourse.

Bhojpuri, a language with over 50 million speakers spread across India, Nepal, Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and many other parts of the world, has historically been subjected to systemic neglect. Despite its deep cultural and historical roots, Bhojpuri has often been sidelined in favor of more dominant languages, leading to its gradual erosion from educational institutions, governance, and mainstream media.

At IIBLD, we recognize that language is more than just a means of communication—it is a repository of identity, culture, and history. The erasure of Bhojpuri from official platforms has led to the systematic stigmatization of its speakers, creating a perception that Bhojpuri is a language of the rural, uneducated, and marginalized. This stigma has had profound consequences, influencing the way Bhojpuri speakers perceive their own linguistic heritage and discouraging them from using their native language in professional or social settings.

Mission

At the International Institute for Bhojpuri Learning and Development (IIBLD), our mission is to revive, standardize, and empower the Bhojpuri language and its native Kaithi script by fostering research, education, and policy advocacy. We strive to break the stigma surrounding Bhojpuri, ensure its formal recognition, and promote it as a language of intellect, culture, and heritage. Through community engagement, academic collaborations, and cultural initiatives, we aim to create a world where Bhojpuri speakers take pride in their linguistic identity, ensuring its survival and flourishing for generations to come.

Vision

We envision a future where Bhojpuri is recognized, respected, and taught as a mainstream language, both in India and across the world. A future where no Bhojpuri speaker feels ashamed to use their mother tongue in professional, academic, or social spaces. By restoring Kaithi script, securing educational inclusion, and advocating for policy reforms, we aim to transform Bhojpuri from a stigmatized dialect to a global linguistic force, preserving its rich cultural legacy and empowering its speakers with a renewed sense of pride and belonging.
